Course Contents:
Traffic engineering studies; fundamentals of traffic flow; capacities and level of service analyses for highway facilities, highway operation systems; traffic control devices; traffic signal design; principles of planning for transportation systems; and basic steps of travel demand forecasting.
Course Objectives:
Acquiring the necessary knowledge and practical comprehension of traffic engineering studies, analysis and design and in transportation planning analysis. The principles and applications of traffic engineering studies and analysis, as well as traffic control systems design are emphasized. In addition, the basic principles of planning for transportation systems are introduced.
The e-learning dimension of the course is designed to enable students to use advanced computer, multimedia, and networking capabilities to assist them in learning and understanding the material, through the inclusion of images, sound, animations, and videos, as well as relevant links, as needed.
Learning Outcomes:
-
Analyze
and interpret traffic engineering studies data (speed, volume, travel time, and
parking studies), and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
-
Identify traffic engineering problems (traffic
flow, intersection control, capacity, and level of service) and use applicable
theories and concepts.
-
Apply principles of engineering, science, and
math to solve and evaluate traffic engineering problems (such as intersection
controls, capacity, and level of service).
Identify traffic engineering design concepts and
requirements related to intersections and traffic control.
Produce traffic designs of intersections and
traffic control considering societal and economic factors.
