English 11000103 is a university-required course. It aims at offering students academic reading, writing, and vocabulary exercises to prepare them for academic texts which they are likely to encounter throughout their academic journey. Authentic formal and informal communication is also emphasized through classroom discussions to strengthen and deepen students’ linguistic competence and critical thinking abilities.
In this course, students are given the opportunity to develop their reading and writing skills in English by participating in different carefully-designed tasks. The reading and writing skills that students practice throughout this course include reading to find main ideas and specific details, working out the meanings of unfamiliar words, making inferences, summarizing and synthesizing texts, annotating while reading, writing sentences, and writing well-structured paragraphs.
