    Text Book: Becker’s World of the Cell 8th edition (2016). Hardin, Bertoni, and Kleinsmith.

    Course Description:
    This course is concerned primarily with eukaryotic cells. Lectures are devoted to structural details and the molecular functions of the different parts of the cell. Lectures will introduce topics such as endocytosis, intramembrane transport, protein targeting, organelle biosynthesis, protein sorting, exocytosis, cell shape, motility, and cell-to-cell interaction. Also, lectures will deal with signal transduction processes, cell cycle, mitosis, cancer, and cellular functions that are required for cell growth and programmed cell death. By its completion, students should have a comprehensive understanding of the architecture and function of living cells.
     
    Course Objectives.
    ♦ Become familiar with the various sub-cellular structures and organelles inside eukaryotic cells
    ♦ Understand how proteins and lipids are synthesized, transported and degraded
    ♦ Learn about vesicular trafficking, endocytosis, and exocytosis
    ♦ Gain an introduction to cellular signal transduction mechanisms (also known as cell signalling)
    ♦ Become familiar with the molecular structure and behaviours of the cytoskeleton
    ♦ Understand the basic events of the cell cycle and the importance of programmed cell death (apoptosis)
    ILOs for the course:
    At the end of this course, the student should be able to
    • Describe the chemical components and processes of cells.
    • Describe the storage of genetic information within cells and how this information is passed on to the next generation.
    • Discuss membrane structure and transport across cell membranes.
    • Discuss the different macromolecule structures and functions.
    • Describe the significant processes involved in the transfer and storage of energy in a cell.
    • Describe the significant processes that occur in cell communication and intracellular transport
    • Describe the life cycle of cells and how these cycles are regulated.
    • Describe the mechanisms involved in gene expression.
    • Discuss the different possible causes of cancer, cellular changes at the molecular level, and the different methods used and proposed for cancer therapy.

      الموضوع: الغياب عن الامتحانات او المحاضرات لأعذار طبيّة

      كل عام وأنتم وشعبنا الفلسطيني، وعالمنا العربي والإسلامي بألف خير، ونرجو لكم السلامة من كلّ شر، والمواظبة على الدّراسة، وتسليم الواجبات، وأداء الامتحانات في مواعيدها، ونحن نقدّر أنّ الظّروف أحياناً قد تؤخّر بعضكم عن ذلك. لكن لا بدّ من نظامٍ واضحٍ يكون مرجعيتنا لضبط الأمور، على وجهٍ منطقيٍّ وسليم.

      وعليه فإنّ التغيّب عن المحاضرة، أو أداء الامتحانات لا يحتسب ضمن الغيابات بعذر، إذا لم يتم احضار سبب مُقنع لمدرّس المساق، ومن بين ذلك العذر الطبّي، ولا يؤخذ به إلا إذا التزم الطالب بما يأتي:

      1. أن يحضر  إلى عيادة الجامعة شخصياً في الفترة الزمنية القانونية، وهي من (1-3) أيام من تاريخ عودته إلى الجامعة، مصطحباً معه التقرير الطبّي حول حالته التي استدعت الغياب.
      2. أن يكون التقرير معتمداً بتوقيع وختم الطبيب المعالج أو المستشفى أو المؤسسة الصادر عنها.
      3. الطالب الذي يمرض خلال الدوام عليه مراجعة عيادة الجامعة، ولن تُقبل التّقارير خلال هذه الفترة من مراكز طبيّة خارجيّة .
      4. على الطلبة الذين يسكنون في مدينة نابلس الالتزام بمراجعة عيادات الجامعة عند المرض في فترة الامتحانات. وعدم التّوجّه إلى عيادات أخرى لأخذ تقارير طبيّة منها.
      5. إرفاق نتائج التحاليل وصور الأشعة وغيرها التي تثبت التشخيص؛ حتّى يتم اعتماد التّقرير.
      6. إذا استدعى الأمر دخول المشفى (لا قدّر الله)، على الطالب إبلاغ رئاسة القسم، والعيادة الجامعيّة.
      7. التقارير الطبية الخاصة بالأسنان معتمدة في حالة وجود قلع جراحي أو غرز طبيّة.
      8. عند الإصابة بالأمراض النفسيّة، أو العصبية، أو أمراض القلب، أو آلام العمود الفقري أو غير ذلك من الحالات التي تحتاج إجازة طويلة فيجب أن تُقدّم تقاريرها حال ظهور المرض مباشرة، ودون تأخير، وبتاريخ واضح يُحدّد الإجازة المرضية بدايةً ونهايةً، ما لم تحدث مضاعفات.
      9. من حق طبيب الجامعة اعتماد التقرير الطبي، أو رفضه، أو  إنقاص  مدة الإجازة المرضية؛ بحسب ما يراه مناسباً وفق طبيعة الحالة.
      10.  يتحمّل الطالب المسؤوليّة القانونيّة إذا ثبت عدم صحّة التّقرير الطبّي.

      3. To study other type of receptors found inside or outside the target cells.

    Cytoskeletal Elements

    Introduction: 

    This chapter is concerned with the interior structure of eukaryotic cells. It gives an idea about the cytoskeleton which is a complex network of interconnected filaments and tubules that extend through the cytosol. The cytoskeleton plays important roles in cell division, cell movement, movement of membrane-bounded organelles within the cytosol and other functions.

    This system is involved in the modulation of events and it is altered by other events.

    Objectives:

    1. To introduce the students to the structural elements of the cytoskeletal system.

    2. To know the structural bases for each component.

    3. To know the function involved by each component.

    Plan:

    After studying the major topic related to this chapter from the textbook, the student can review them by looking at the following presentations.
